String Theory Announces Sandbox Percussion Residency for Season 18!
String Theory will welcome internationally acclaimed Sandbox Percussion for a special Chattanooga residency, bringing world-class artists into local schools and the community for coaching, mentorship, and educational outreach.
For Season 18, String Theory remains committed to its mission of bringing high-quality classical music education to local schools and community organizations across the region. As part of this ongoing effort, the organization is excited to announce a special residency featuring the musicians of Sandbox Percussion, one of the most sought-after percussion ensembles performing today.
In the days surrounding their mainstage concert in April 2027, members of Sandbox Percussion will spend time throughout the greater Chattanooga area, visiting local schools and working directly with percussion studios in the community. The residency is designed to give students hands-on access to world-class artists, offering coaching, mentorship, and insight into contemporary percussion performance that extends far beyond a typical concert experience.
Sandbox Percussion has built a reputation not only as performers but as educators, having led masterclasses and coaching sessions at some of the nation's top conservatories, including the Curtis Institute, the Juilliard School, the Yale School of Music, and the Peabody Institute.
By bringing this residency to Chattanooga, String Theory is offering local students a rare opportunity to learn from artists at the forefront of their field. String Theory is thrilled to bring these exceptionally gifted educators and talented artists to our local community, and hopes this kind of engagement can create a lasting impact on young musicians.
The residency underscores String Theory's broader vision: that access to exceptional music education shouldn't be limited to major cities or conservatories, but should be woven into the fabric of local schools and community organizations wherever possible.
